What is matter it's types and properties
What is matter?
Anything which occupy space and possesses mass is called matter matter consists of various types of particles
States of matter |
Examples of matter
- Neutron
- Proton
- Atom
- Electrons
Neutron: Neutron is neutral in nature.
Proton: Proton has positive charge.
Electron: electron has negative charge.
Atom: Atom is very small size particles which can be seen only under microscope.
Existence of matter: Matter exist in various States .The common states are solid, gas, liquid ,plasma ,Bose Einstein andcondens.
Existence of matter |
Solid: Solids are defined as the substance which have definite shape, mass and volume .Particles are closely packed in solid.
Types of solid:
- Amorphous solid
- Crystalline solid
The branch of science which deals with the solid is called solid state Physics.
Properties of solids:
- Solids have definite shape, mass and volume.
- They are hard and rigid.
- They have high melting point.
- They have high boiling point.
Liquid: liquid is defined as the substance which have not definite shape, but have definite mass and volume. In liquid particles are closely packed. It is made up of tiny vibrating particles of matter which are held Together by intramolecular forces . The boilng point of pure water is 100 degree Celsius.
Properties of liquid
- Liquids have definite volume and mass.
- Liquids don't have definite shape.
- Melting point and boiling point of liquid is lower than solids and higher than gas.
- Particles of a liquid are not closely packed.
Gas: Gas is defined as the state of matter which have not definite shape, volume and size. The gaseous state of matter is found between the liquid and plasma States.
- Properties of gas: Gas have not definite shape, volume and size.
- Gas is compressible.
- Gas can expand to take shape of container
